I. First
Day
write a brief paper (2-3pp)

1. indicating what you did to prepare for your first day
and describing your work experience with college .
2. Be prepared to tell us about your internship- company, dept., your
responsibilities, who you report to.
II. Intern Goals

in
order to insure you are clear what you want out of your internship, you are
asked to develop a minimum of 4 goals you hope to accomplish through your
internship. These are to be reviewed by your supervisor and instructor before
they are finalized.
For each goal (hint follow the table on the last slide of goal setting module):
1.) State
the goal, "What do I want to learn?" this can be personal development,
specific content such as finance or marketing techniques, professional or about
the profession/ industry.
2.) "How am I going to learn this goal?" What activities,
resources, persons will you use to achieve this goal?
3.) "How do I see this goal as fitting into my future?" how important
is it to you and your career development.
Have supervisor/mentor review, then present to instructor.
III.
MY JOB:

Describe your job briefly.
How does this job relate to your past school/work experience?
What is it about the job that makes it a learning experience for you?
How does being an employee differ from being a student?
What can/have you done that might cause your employer to give
you
a rave review?
What accomplishments have you made that could be placed
on
a resume?
On a scale from 1 to 10 rate the job as a learning experience for
you. Explain.
IV. Boss & Coworker Report [SLIDES]
Write a brief report
(3-5 pp.) in which you answer the following:
BOSS:
Your boss's job title, responsibilities, etc.
What is your boss's
leadership style? Describe and give examples.
What does s/he do to
assist you in your work? To hinder you?
What have you done to
establish a rapport with your boss?
How can you make
yourself more manageable?
Co-worker: select a coworker and answer the following:
Describe your coworker's job and responsibilities?
How does their job
affect yours?
Describe the
relationship you have developed with this person?
Does this relationship
help you on the job? In what ways does it
hinder you?
What can you do
to become a better colleague?

V. Organization Report: [SLIDES]
What is your firm's mission?
Describe its products or services offered and markets served?
Brief description of the industry and current major trends/challenges?
What is the nature of communications and work flow in the organization?
What seems to be really important to the organization?
Describe your overall impression of the organization?
Do people need to be political in order to operate well in
the organization?
What can you do to fit better in the organization? Does the organization
need to change to be more appealing to younger workers? Explain.

VI. JOURNAL:
is a compilation of the above assignments, your activity log, and it must
contain an introduction and conclusions [SLIDES]. See separate instructions

Prepare a presentation (10 min. - power point) that provides the highlights of your experience and key lessons learned.
How well did you meet your goals? Did they change, if so explain.
Draw on your boss/coworker, organization, and job reports as well as your learning reports to develop you presentation.
We'll need to know about your responsibilities and accomplishments, your relationship with bosses and coworkers, what its like to be the new person, to be powerless , etc.
Focus on the most important issues, the changes you experienced. What have you learned about work and working with others. How has this experience changed your attitude about work , and what will you take from this experience to your next job.
Try to highlight those issues that have implications for your fellow interns as well.
